| The M.D./Ph.D. program is a
7-year partnership program leading to the MD from the New Jersey Medical School -
University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark, and the Ph.D. from Rutgers-The
State University of NJ -Campus at Newark. Typically, for the first 2 years students take
basic biomedical courses at NJMS, perform research at Rutgers-Newark during those summers,
then enter the Ph.D. program with a reduced course load and intensive research activity at
Rutgers-Newark for the next 3 years, at the successful conclusion of which they receive
the Ph.D. degree. Students then return to NJMS for 2 years of clinical training, at
the successful conclusion of which they receive the M.D. degree. Students apply to both institutions simultaneously and if accepted
and progress satisfactorily, are provided with full waiver of tuition for the entire 7
years plus annual salary/stipend support at levels commensurate with the graduate
student salary scale of both institutions. Minority students are encouraged to apply. |
